As a specialist SEMH school, we recognise the multiple barriers that our young people may face when accessing the future work force. Our careers programme is designed to remove barriers, raise aspirations and equip young people with the skills, confidence and independence needed to achieve successful and sustainable outcomes beyond school.
We deliver a progressive, personalised careers programme from Years 7 to 11, embedding careers learning through our Life Skills curriculum, employer encounters, personal guidance, work experience, travel training and transition support. Every student receives impartial one-to-one careers guidance from a qualified Level 7 Careers Adviser and is supported to explore a wide range of education, training and employment pathways.
Preparation for Adulthood is at the heart of our approach. Alongside careers education, students develop independence, self-management, communication, financial capability, community participation and employability skills. Travel training, workplace experiences and transition planning help students build the confidence needed to access and sustain future opportunities.
Employer engagement is a significant strength of the programme. Through partnerships with organisations including Morgan Sindall, Transport for Greater Manchester, the NHS, Tesco and local businesses, students gain meaningful encounters with employers and the world of work. Every Key Stage 4 student undertakes a two-week work experience placement, enabling them to develop workplace skills, increase independence and gain insight into possible career pathways.
Student voice plays a central role in shaping provision. Through consultation in Years 9, 10 and 11, students influence curriculum development, employer encounters, work experience opportunities and post-16 transition activities. This ensures careers education remains relevant, responsive and reflective of students’ aspirations, while fostering a strong culture of ownership and engagement.
Alongside our universal offer, students can access additional support through Careers Club, Careers Drop-In and targeted interventions. Support may include college applications, interview preparation, CV writing, travel training, budgeting, career planning and independence skills. Themes emerging from these interventions are used to continually refine and strengthen the wider careers curriculum.
Parents and carers are recognised as vital partners in the transition process. Through information evenings, EHCP reviews, careers meetings, post-16 events and accessible resources, families are supported to understand progression pathways and make informed decisions alongside their young person.
This whole-school approach has resulted in students progressing to a wide range of destinations, including mainstream and specialist colleges, supported internships, employability programmes, apprenticeships and employment. By combining personalised guidance, employer engagement, family partnership, targeted support and Preparation for Adulthood, Reddish Hall ensures every student is empowered to achieve ambitious, appropriate and sustainable futures.
