PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE

1 June 2024

PARTIAL SCHOOL CLOSURE MONDAY 3 JUNE AND TUESDAY 4 JUNE

GCSE EXAMS UNAFFECTED

Dear Parents and Carers,

Building work during the half term on the roof of the Denstone building has uncovered a gas leak in an external pipe.  There has been a repair, but unfortunately it has not been completely successful, meaning the gas to the Denstone building is currently turned off.  A further repair is being undertaken on Monday, but we will not know until Tuesday whether we are able to turn the gas back on.

This means we have no hot water, cooking facilties or heating in the Denstone building until Wednesday 5 June at the soonest, and are therefor unable to open the site to students other than pupils who are sitting GCSEs.

GCSE exams will go ahead in the Lewis building as planned.  Pupils sitting morning exams should come in for those as usual on Monday and Tuesday morning.

If you child has both a morning and afternoon exam, they will have lunch at the Hive.

If they have a morning exam, we will transport them home after the exam has finished.

If they have an afternoon exam, then we will collect them mid-morning to transport them to school in good time for their exam.

The Hive remains open as normal, so pupils who are based there can attend as usual. Their timetable is unaffected.

All being well, school will be fully open on Wednesday.  You will receive an update on this on Tuesday.

There is a chance that the repair will take longer and we won’t be able to fully open on Wednesday.  Hopefully, this won’t be the case, but please keep this in mind if you need to make child care arrangements.

Many apologies for the inconvenience; I appreciate this is not ideal, but is a situation that is outside of our control.  We are working to have it rectified as soon as possible.  The staff team will be in touch with you over Monday and Tuesday to check in and keep you up to date.

Kind regards,

Sarah Makin

Executive Head
