LEAVERS RESULTS 2024 ANALYSIS
Headlines
- Over 200 qualifications achieved from Year 7 upwards within one year
- Increasing number of pupils achieving statistically great outcomes.
- Higher proportion of pupils leaving us with Level 2 qualifications – around half manage this (48%).
- 77% of pupils leaving us with 5+ GCSEs (or equivalent). Continued improvement in the average number of qualifications L1 or higher achieved
Consistently above average outcomes
Pass rates at GCSE have fallen across the UK this year. With relatively small cohorts we should approach with caution when comparing one group of leavers’ results with another, particularly if the group cohort ability levels are different. We are pleased that our school’s Attainment 8 scores remain way above national independent SEND schools as below:

We are confident that our leavers are achieving broadly in line with their potential as identified in CAT-4 testing. We have noticed that 73% of our leavers are achieving close to their raw potential CAT4 – this is positive considering our pupils can have a range of additional needs and sometimes experience acute mental health complexities during their final year of school.
Pupils leaving with 5 or more GCSE’s
The proportion of our pupils leaving us with 5 or more GCSE/equivalent qualifications has again increased, as below:

This year we have noted a higher proportion of pupils achieving Level 2 (Grade 4 or higher) – 48% of our cohort. Pupils have achieved well across GCSE’s, Functional Skills, BTECs, vocational qualifications, and personal development awards such as King’s Trust.

KS4 Qualification Outcomes – Subject Analysis
Headline Strengths
- English – All leavers achieved an English qualification, with increasing numbers securing Level 2. Strong contingency ensured robust outcomes using Functional Skills as back-up.
- Computing – Computing/ICT is a growth area. All pupils entered achieved either Grade 5 or 6 at GCSE or Level 2 vocational computing.
- Vocational – All but 2 leavers (on an academic KS4 Options pathway) completed vocational qualifications, totaling 107 units. 41 qualifications were awarded to the 21 leavers, including some whom had bespoke timetables in place (Project 3). A clear strength in breadth of accreditation and engagement, from Mechanics, Catering, Sport, Hair and Beauty, Health and Social Care, and Horticulture.

Key Concerns
- Maths – 18 GCSE entries (90% of leavers), but only 8 pupils (40%) secured Functional Skills Maths at L1 or higher. Despite strong SOLAR progress data, the lack of FS back-up undermined overall outcomes. This indicates the need for a review of assessment planning and alignment of SOLAR tracking with summative entries.
Data Interpretation
- English & Science – SOLAR progress aligns closely with outcomes, showing teacher judgements were accurate.
- Maths – Some disconnect as SOLAR progress was high, but not enough back-up FS used throughout Y10 and Y11.
- Vocational – Outcomes and progress data both confirm strong pupil progress, making this a sustained area of success.
- Computing and Humanities – dips are shown that don’t reflect outcomes or lesson quality, Simon R to explore.
Actions
- Ensure all leavers achieve their back-up English and Maths qualifications to ensure less reliance on a busy GCSE timetable
- Further support and development for our computing curriculum area.
- Support attainment in Hive classes – as many are capable of achieving beyond Entry level outcomes. Explore Arts Award and BTEC Sport.

We have had our largest ever intake of Year 11’s sitting exams this year, with our best ever results showing an increasing trend over time:

Building on this, we have had additional pass rates for our Functional Skills qualifications including attainment at Entry level and Level 1 for pupils in Years 8 and 9, and attainment at Entry level, Level 1 and 2 for Years 10 and 11.
We are very proud of our Year 11 and Year 12’s for their hard work and achievements across a wide range of GCSE’s and other vocational qualifications.

With the introduction of ‘options’ for our Key Stage 4 pupils (including GCSE, BTEC, Functional skills, City & Guilds and DofE), our 2020 leaver had choice of over a dozen different subjects, qualifications and enrichment areas. For the first time, this allowed pupils to study the subjects that interested them most and has resulted in the 2020 exams series being Reddish Hall Schools most successful.
Our core subjects had 100% pass rates in both Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English. Core GCSE subjects also had a 100% success rate with 50% of pupils receiving a ‘good’ grade (Grade 4 and over) in GCSE Maths, 1/3 in English and 30% in Science.
Our non-core subjects (English Literature, History, Computing and Art GCSE’s, BTEC Sports, Horticulture City and Guilds and Duke of Edinburg Award), also achieved 100% pass rates, again with 30% graded as ‘good’. On average, our pupils gained 7 qualifications across the range of levels with one pupil gaining 9.
We at Reddish Hall School are very pleased with the efforts and achievements of all our pupils and staff in this, the first year of exams in many subject areas. The success of our pupils have allowed all our leavers to take further steps towards their chosen careers by entering training in a range of settings including; Sports Development, Motor mechanic, Social care, Engineering and Electrical engineering.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our leavers and wish them every success in their futures.

LEAVERS RESULTS 2023 ANALYSIS – BEST RESULTS YET.
Headlines
- Best success rates ever with Years 10 and 11 achieving over 110 qualifications.
- Highest grades achieved
- Increase in pupils leaving us with Level 2 endpoints ready for T-levels or A-levels.
- Majority of pupils leaving us with 5 or more GCSE-equivalent qualifications.
Highest grades achieved
Nationally in 2023 there was a considerable fall in the number of grades awarded at grade 4 or above, however we are pleased to report that we have seen a strong increase in this area. Nationally the percentage of grades awarded at grade 4 and above fell by 5%; with 69% of Greater Manchester pupils across all schools achieving grade 4 or better.
Within our specialist SEND school we have had an increase from 46% to 55% of grades being awarded for GCSE level subjects at a grade 4 or above, which is falling just 15% short of all mainstream education including all non-SEND pupils.
Many colleges and training providers accept a Grade 3 for entry to Level 2 courses post-16, when you consider this measure we have again increased our achievements from 54% achieving a Grade 3 or higher in 2022, up to 75% of pupils having grade 3 or higher qualifications in 2023.
Additionally, as a school we have seen our first ever achievements of Grade 7 and Grade 8.
As a special school, we feel that these statistics show our strong performance against mainstream education. Figures for SEND schools are more difficult to obtain due to the smaller pool of data, as many special schools do not enter pupils for GCSE’s.
Nationally, in 2021-22 18.3% of SEND pupils achieved grade 5 or above, this year we are pleased to share that we double that with 36% of our grades being awarded at a grade 5 or higher.
Overall, the proportion of pupils leaving us with Level 2 qualifications has strongly increased to well over half, as below:

Attainment 8 points score levels
Over time, the standard of grades that our pupils has trebled since 2019, and continues to sit well above the national average for SEND-pupils with EHCP’s, as below:

Amount of pupils leaving with 5 or more GCSE’s
Finally, the proportion of our pupils leaving us with 5 or more GCSE/equivalent qualifications has again increased, as below:

In total we achieved over 110 qualifications with 15 pupils.
